News in Brief

James 5 v 16
The effective fervent prayer of the righteousness avails much

God Shall Heal Our Nation…

This was the title for the Yorkshire Prayer Conference last August.

We know that nothing happens without faithful pray...ers. We are trying to locate prayer groups within our church network, so that we can access information as to know what the Holy Spirit is speaking through the groups to the church.

Our church is involved in a prayer Weekend at Bawtry Hall on the 9th — 11th April 2010 for a weekend of prayer. Your input could be valuable.

If you meet to pray in groups, no matter how small, we would like to hear from you. So please let Christina Denton know about your group.

Jason, Stacey, big brother T.J and big sister Taffie would like to invite you to celebrate the Baptism of Tessie Smith on the 21st March at the family service.

There will be drinks and cake after the service. We hope to see you there

Pre-School Nativity
at Christ Church

Monday 14th Dec
10.30am
Everyone Welcome!

I would just like to say….
Thank you to all those who sponsored me and supported me in prayer while doing The Great North Run. I achieved my goal (with a little help from my friends) by completing it in four hours. The charity I as raising money for was Marie Curie Cancer Care. If you sponsored me, would it be possible to have it handed in as soon as you can please.

Whether you were a fast or slow runner, they all encouraged each other. It didn’t matter what background they had or what pace you were doing. We were all going the same way, with the same thing in mind. The route was like a roller coaster - it had its ups and downs.

The three times I have done the half marathon, it doesn’t get any easier. Each of the occasions God has used me in many ways. One of which to come side by side and getting down to the person’s level, meeting them as they struggle, but we get over the finish line with aching limbs, emotional but with elation.

Many Thanks & Blessings
Fay Reddington

Youth Church
At the beginning of September in the Key Centre the Christ Church Youth Service was birthed. In the 2 months it has been running we have seen God's presence fall gently but with power. The result has been an encountering of God by both the young people and the team. There have been prayers of healing from kids as young as 10 and many commitments to Christ.
In a recent service we saw young people committing themselves to pray regularly as well as making offerings of there lives, hearts and time.
In the middle of one service the holy Spirit came like gentle rain with many moved dramatically by the reality of the presence of God.
The youth service has also birthed the new youth band and it is really exciting to see this group of young people growing not just as musicians but as worshipers. They have helped lead us into some very powerful times of worship.
The youth team have been encouraged by what God is doing and would ask that you would continue to pray that the kingdom of God comes to the youth of this town!

Midweek Service
Are you in need of a touch from God? Do you need to come into a place of greater intimacy in his presence? Are you hungry? Thirsty? needing refreshment or a time of praise and worship during the week?
Then why not get under the waterfall of Gods presence and join us at the Christ church mid week service, Tuesday nights at 7.30 pm in church.

News In Brief

Many thanks from Scarborough Pregnancy Crisis Centre to everyone who supported the Springtime bottle appeal. Across several churches around £500 was raised

www.careconfidential.com/scarborough

Scarborough Pregnancy Crisis Centre seeks to help those experiencing a crisis pregnancy. They offer a free pregnancy test and counselling, which is offered by volunteer counsellors, most of whom have experienced a crisis pregnancy themselves. The main focus is to allow the woman some listening space and time so she can really sort out for herself her best way forward, considering several options, and avoid making a quick decision which she may later regret. A male counsellor is also available if required. The Centre offers baby clothes and equipment to women who need it, and advice on support agencies in the locality. Post abortion counselling is also available.

11.00am Service
In case you missed the notice, we have introduced coffee in the middle of the service from August 30th. This will help us welcome new people and increase our meeting together as a congregation. Trax and the Start Course will continue as usual.

The style of the service will be welcoming, informal and relaxed. We are also excited about two other new ventures which will be starting on September 6th. We are planting out two new churches from the 11am service which we anticipate to start in a small way and grow.

The first is ‘Play & Do Church’ meeting in the Church Hall with Moira Jefferson. This will be a church based around children activities in which parents are present.

Secondly a ’Youth Church’ (incorporating Freestyle) in the Key Centre which will also start on September 6th. This will be open to all over the age of 11 and to which we can invite adults in the 20’s and 30’s age group.

Please pray about these significant changes and we look forward to all that God will do in the Autumn with us.

Update from PCC
At the July meeting the lighting scheme for Christ Church was considered. We are grateful to God that we have already received over £27,000 but the scheme would cost about £45,000 and therefore has been put on hold until finances permit

IONA PILGRIMAGE (5th-9th October)
There are still a few places available on an autumn pilgrimage to Iona led by writer and broadcaster, Revd Rob Marshall. The pilgrimage leaves from York Railway station in the early afternoon of Monday 3rd (easily reachable via train from all parts of the south) and journeys north to the Erskine Bridge where there is an overnight stay with dinner. Next morning, the coach takes us via the beautiful shores of Loch Lomond to the lovely town of Oban from where we board a ferry to Mull. We journey across Mull on our coach to Fionphort and take a smaller boat onto the island of Iona for three nights of prayer, reflection and meditation. Accommodation is in a range of comfortable B&B’s on the island. The return journey is from Iona direct to York on the Friday, arriving back in the early evening. The price in a twin room is £465 (half board). Iona played an enormous role in the spreading of what is now called Celtic Christianity across the UK in the 7th/8th centuries. Boys Will be Men.
Under the excellent leadersgip of Tony Found the Boys’ Brigade continues to flourish. The annual display on the 21st May was a huge success. The highlight of the evening for me was the sword fencing display carried out by the older boys. It was good to see the boys taking part and enjoying the sport. The younger boys entertained us with David and Goliath and a song.

These young men seem to thrive on the Boys’ Brigade discipline, ordered ways. The boys received awards and badges for work completed during the year. These young people are our future. Tony Found is preparing the September programme and needs your help, your skills experiences, and stories are badly needed, please contact reception if you can help. Many thanks
ELAINE BROADBENT.

Fusion - A Student Mission

Over the last 12 years, Fusion has been equipping churches across the UK to engage with student mission and discipleship. They now partner with 200 churches.

The ministry of Fusion emerged in 1997 as a response to a shared vision across the body of Christ to address the challenges of a changing student world. God’s passion is for a dynamic student movement, one that will see Universities and colleges won for Christ.

Recent figures suggest that there are 2.3 million students in the UK. Student numbers have increased over 700% in the last 40 years and the government has set a target of 50% of all young people in Higher Education by 2010. Less than 2% of students are actively involved in church. Fusion’s mission is to reach every student with the gospel, initially in the UK and then beyond. If you would like further information visit

http://www.fusion.uk.com/

If you are going off to university or are already in further education and would like further information regarding the work of Fusion please leave your details at reception 01262 404100
